Ear correction

Many people suffer from the appearance of their ears: ears that are too small or too large, protruding or irregular ear shapes or disturbing earlobe shapes. Many young and older adults are also bothered by their protruding ears and wish to have them corrected. The exact analysis of the malposition is decisive for a perfect aesthetic result with long durability. The ear cartilage is treated and corrected with an incision behind the ear. Split earlobes usually occur after an accident or after years of wearing heavy earrings. A special surgical incision technique is used to prevent recurrence. After 9 months, a new ear hole can be sewn in the same place.

During the first consultation, we will make sure that hearing correction makes sense for you. For this purpose, we clarify questions about your general state of health. We measure the various parameters of the ear and analyse the exact misalignment of the ear. Nicotine consumption should ideally be stopped 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after the operation. Certain medications that increase the risk of bleeding, such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and certain vitamin-containing and homeopathic medications, should also be discontinued 2 weeks before the procedure. On the day of the operation, it is necessary to take the so-called preliminary pictures and mark the future ear contour in a standing position. In the case of children, a general anaesthetic is used. In other cases, we usually perform the ear correction under local anesthesia. The incision is made at the back of the ear. The shape of the ear cartilage is changed accordingly, and your earpiece is threaded into place and secured with tight sutures. The procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours, and a special compression bandage is applied at the end of the surgery. After only a few hours you can go home.

Immediately after the operation you will be fitted with a head bandage. This supports the new shape of the ear and should be worn for a week. Pain after an ear correction can be treated well with light painkillers with a decongestant effect. You will also need to take antibiotics for 7 days after the procedure. The bandage will be changed after one week. After that you will have to wear a bandage day and night for 2 weeks, then only at night for another 2 weeks. Light physical activities can be resumed after a few days. After 6 weeks you can resume sports. In order to make the scar as invisible as possible, scar treatment should only be started after the scar has healed. Special scar ointments are suitable for this purpose and should be applied to the affected areas three times a day. Massage promotes the absorption of the cream. As long as the scar is red or pink, you should protect it from the sun.

In principle, every operation involves certain risks, such as infections or haematomas. The sensitivity of the skin to touch may be slightly limited after the operation. After the operation, bruising, redness and slight swelling occur regularly, divergence of the wound edges under mechanical stress, healing disorders, asymmetry of both ears.
